The circuit last stopped in China in 2019, and seven years later the Merrell Daocheng Yading Skyrace® returns to the calendar as one of the wildest and most spectacular races of the circuit, classified as a SuperSky race with a 1.5x points multiplier.

A race that takes place almost entirely above 4,000 metres, set in an unmatched environment: Daocheng Yading, in Sichuan Province, on the edge of the Tibetan plateau. A remote setting where altitude determines everything, and where Tibetan mysticism — colourful prayer flags, stone cairns and ancient temples — adds a unique atmosphere to the competition.

Although it is not an especially technical race, what makes it different is its maximum altitude, reaching 4,735 metres — the highest point of the 2026 MSWS season. A demanding challenge defined by long stretches at high altitude, sudden temperature changes and the effects of hypoxia, making acclimatisation and race management crucial factors.
The three race distances cross alpine forests, high-altitude meadows, turquoise glacial lakes and valleys dominated by three sacred peaks over 6,000 metres:
- Ultra Kora: 50 km · +3.500 / -2.500 m
- Skyrun: 32 km · +2.800 / -1.590 m_
- Hiking: 10 km · ±500 m
Both the Skyrun and Ultra Kora started at 5:00 a.m., still in the dark and under headlamps, from Shangri-La, heading towards the sacred mountains of Daocheng, finishing point-to-point in Yading Village.
With the absence of many of the leading names of the Sky season, the race represented a key opportunity for elite athletes to score important points towards the Skymasters qualification.
Ji Duo (CHN/Hoka) and Svetlana Nurmukhametova (RUS), both leading from start to finish, managed their races best and claimed the 150 points awarded to Red races.
Man’s race
Ji Duo gave no chance to either his compatriots or the international field. Despite a relatively small gap, he used his knowledge of the course and his adaptation to altitude to take the win ahead of Oier Zubeldia (ESP/Euskal Selekzioa), who finished 6 minutes behind.
Kaijin Shi (CHN / Kailas Fuga), second at km 20, was overtaken in the final section by Zubeldia and completed the podium in third place.

Women’s race
Svetlana Nurmukhametova delivered a dominant performance, leading from start to finish without any real challenge.
She took the win with a 12-minute gap over Japan’s Takako Takamura (JAP/ACG), while Ainara Alcuaz (ESP/Euskal Selekzioa) secured third place 36 minutes behind the winner.

Overall
Svetlana Nurmukhametova has made her strategy clear: focusing on the Asian block of the circuit. With wins in Yading and Penang, along with a fifth place in Ueda, she moves into second place overall.
Weston Hill, finishing sixth, reaches a total of 423 points. However, as only the best four results count (2 SuperSky + 2 Sky or 1 SuperSky + 3 Sky), his effective score is 326 points, keeping him among the leading positions.

Next Stop: Ibarra Skyrace®
The circuit now moves to San Miguel de Ibarra, in the Ecuadorian Andes, known as “the white city”.
After reaching the highest point of the 2026 circuit in Yading, the calendar continues with high-altitude racing. This time, the course starts at 2,215 m and climbs to 4,640 m at the summit of Taita Imbabura volcano.

Altitude adaptation and weather conditions in the upper sections will once again be decisive.

For many South American and international athletes, this will be another opportunity to improve their position in the overall standings and stay in contention for the Skymasters.
